How To Install The WesternQuake 3 Standalone

Step 1. Download the ioQuake3 engine from their homepage ----> Here

Step 2. Once downloaded, double-click the executable and install it into the default directory

Step 3. Once that game is installed, fetch the WesternQuake 3 ZIP install ----> Here

Step 4. Use your default windows extraction program, or if you desire a better program grab Izarc from ----> Here and extract the file into this directory: C:\Program Files\ioquake3\

Step 5. There are a couple of 3rd party maps not included in the new version ----> Here (we do this because there seems to be no auto-download feature in WesternQuake3). Extract this zip into this directory:
C:\Program Files\ioquake3\westernq3\

Step 6. Copy the file "wq3_pak0.pk3" from your westernq3 folder into your baseq3 folder which  both happen to be a subdirectory of the ioquake3 folder. Then, rename it to: "pak0.pk3"

Step 7. Now, we need to make a shortcut. After installing ioquake3, there should be an icon located on the desktop called "ioquake3". Right-click on this icon and select properties from the drop-down menu. Once the dialog window opens click the "shortcut" tab and then locate a field labeled "Target". In that field, scroll all the way to the right and add this code "+ set fs_game westernq3" (making sure there is a space between the previous code and the code listed above). Once you are done, find the button below labeled "Change Icon". Since this is Western Quake, we should find  the Western Quake 3 icon. Use the browse function to navigate to this directory: C:\Program Files\ioquake3\westernq3

Once you choose from 2 of the .ico or icons included in the default Western Quake 3 installation, hit apply and then okay.

Step 7. Relax. You Are Done
